God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. 7 I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. 7 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 13 So don’t be surprised, dear brothers and sisters,[o] if the world hates you. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.
